In 1996 the St. Ignaz Gallery, the lowest gallery in the former copper mine at Prettau in the Ahrntal Valley, was opened to visitors as an adventure mine: equipped with helmet and waterproof jacket, they take the train one kilometre into the mine, where a 350-metre tour begins with lifelike replicas of miners demonstrating the different techniques once used in the narrow tunnels and deep shafts. The cement copper plant shows an alternative copper extraction method still in use today. A climate gallery, located some 1,100 metres inside the mine, is intended as a place of quiet, relaxation and recovery.
